NEUROTOXIN AND DERMAL FILLERS

Dermatological procedures such as Neurotoxin and Dermal Fillers can restore glowing skin for patients concerned about the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and the recession of facial fullness associated with aging.

While both are very effective facial treatments, they work differently. Botox is a form of a neurotoxin called Onobotulinumtoxin A. This is used to "freeze" muscles and prevents the appearance of fine lines. While dermal fillers have components that add volume or fullness to thinning areas caused by aging.

Our team provides each patient with the best and technology available in the Orlando area.

Assessment

The first step in your neuromodulator therapy is a pre-treatment assessment. This involves taking photos of the areas to be treated so you can discuss specific goals with our board-certified dermatologist.

DIAGNOSIS

Our skin specialist will provide a custom facial anatomy that marks the exact injection points with a white makeup pencil. You will be asked to raise your eyebrows, smile wildly, and frown to identify facial muscles to target.

COSMETIC INJECTION

When we perform our cosmetic injections, many of our patients feel a small pinch. We may apply numbing cream to lessen the discomfort, overall you can expect a safe and comfortable procedure.

HOW DO INJECTABLE FILLERS WORK?

Dermal fillers improve a person's appearance by reducing unwanted wrinkles, boosting volume, and rejuvenating the skin. We may apply a numbing cream to the area before you receive your dermal fillers.

Injections usually last a few minutes per site for wrinkles.

If you have scars and deep lines, you may require multiple injections to achieve your desired outcome. Both men and women are seeking dermatological procedure to rejuvenate their skin. For a complete diagnosis, contact us today and get started looking younger again.

HA FILLERS

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found in your skin with the most concentration in the eyes and joints. As we age and our skin begins to thin, the loss of volume results in wrinkles, folds, and fine lines. The injectable HA is then used to reduce such appearance.

This temporary dermal filler keeps the skin hydrated and plump for 6 to 12 months before the body gradually absorbs the particles. FDA approved HA fillers include:

JUVEDERM

  • Juvederm Voluma XC adds volume to your cheeks by injecting a hyaluronic gel underneath the skin.
  • Juvederm XC and Juvederm Vollure XC offer treatments that help eliminate wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and nose, leaving you with a more youthful appearance.
  • Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Volbella XC are two new nonsurgical lip enhancement treatments clinically proven to smooth out your lips’ wrinkles temporarily. These products are often referred to as Juvederm lip fillers.

RESTYLANE

Restylane fillers can be used for the following:

  • lip enhancement using Restylane lip fillers
  • removing lines around your mouth
  • adding volume to your cheeks
  • reducing dark circles under your eyes

SCULPTRA

Sculptra injections are cosmetic fillers made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Once injected, Sculptra stimulates the body to produce collagen which restores the skin volume lost due to natural aging or illness. Sculptra are typically performed in these target regions:

  1. Temples. This is to address loss of volume and hollowing as well as improving the facial shape.
  2. Mid-cheek. It is injected superficially just the boney cheek region to treat fine lines and hollowing.
  3. Lower face. Sculptra is also effective in improving the natural structure due to jowling and pre-jowl depressions.
  4. Chin augmentation. Sculptra can also improve the appearance of jaw bones and alter chin contour.
  5. Chest/decolletage. It improves wrinkled skin on this area as well.
  6. Arms. Sculptra is also used on arms to tighten skin and prevent sagging.
  7. Butt. Sculptra butt injections not only fill out the butt-dimple areas but also enhance its shape and curve.

RADIESSE

Radiesse is a highly sought-after dermal filler for wrinkled and folded areas of the skin, especially on the face. Radiesse is made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) that provides good support in areas such as the jaw line, chin, and nasolabial folds. This filler can last up to two years and offers the following specific benefits

  • Reduce temple concavity
  • Create cheekbones
  • Strengthen the chin and jawline
  • Soften nasolabial folds
  • Reduce the appearance of aging hands

IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR FILLERS

If you have gained noticeable wrinkles and fine lines or are unhappy with the lack of, or loss of volume in some regions of your skin, you may qualify as an ideal candidate for soft tissue fillers. Similarly, if you are experiencing the following, then you can opt for this procedure to bring back your youthful self:

Nasolabial folds (lines extending from the sides of the nose down to the mouth)
Marionette lines (extending downwards from the corners of the mouth to the chin)
Smile lines
Skin depressions such as acne scars
Sagging, sunken, or hollow cheeks
Thin lips

COSMETIC INJECTIONS FAQS

Does cosmetic injection hurt?

There is little to no pain when we perform our cosmetic injections. Many of our patients feel a small pinch that is tolerable and doesn’t last long. In some instances, your dermatologist may apply ice or numbing cream to ease any discomfort.

When will I see results of cosmetic injectables?

You will start to see results of cosmetic injections within the first 24 – 48 hours which can last up to four months. To keep the results going, you may need a follow-up treatment after 3 – 6 months. After that, you’ll notice that treatment results will last longer.

Who are the best candidates for cosmetic injectables?

Men and women can both receive cosmetic injections to combat wrinkles and frown lines. However, we suggest that you be at least 20 years old to enjoy its benefits.

Are there any side effects from cosmetic injections?

The most common side effects of cosmetic injectibles include muscle weakness, slight bruising, bleeding, redness, and swelling at the injection site. These side effects are minimal and temporary. If you experience these symptoms longer, contact your doctor right away.

What’s the difference between botox and fillers?

Most people get confused between two types of injectables: botox and fillers. It’s important to distinguish their differences so you can make the best choice for your skin. Botox is an injectable for limiting muscle movements while fillers are used to build skin volume.

Botox helps reduce muscle activity that causes wrinkles. Facial fillers, on the other hand, lift the skin by filling the areas with gel like substances that restore volume, smother lines and make the skin appear hydrated.

How effective are dermal fillers?

Dermal and soft tissue fillers are often a conservative and minimally invasive solution to restore volume loss, which may not require more invasive treatments. While injectable fillers don’t provide the dramatic results that cosmetic surgery does, they do offer patients a less costly experience, immediate results, and no downtime or recovery period.

What are the risks?

Dermal fillers can cause allergic reactions. In case of any allergic response, patients may experience small bumps under their skin. A bluish skin discoloration known as the Tyndall effect is rare but can last for several months.

The risks of improper dermal filler injections include skin cell death and disfigurement. This is why it is so important to discuss the treatment with your dermatologist and choose your provider wisely.

Oasis Dermatology is trusted by many. Dr. Jesleen Ahluwalia has extensive experience in administering filler injections

How long do fillers last?

The longevity of a filler’s results depends on the type of filler. Hyaluronic acid fillers, like Juvederm, fade faster than collagen fillers and usually last from six to 12 months. However, all dermal fillers are temporary solutions, so repeat treatments will be needed to maintain your new, youthful facial appearance.
