ABLATIVE LASER TREATMENT

When you opt for Ablative treatment in laser resurfacing acne scars, we remove the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and heat the underlying skin (dermis) to stimulate collagen growth. This type of treatment includes a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, an erbium laser, and combination systems. When the epidermis starts to heal and regenerate, your skin will become smoother and tighter.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing | Oasis Dermatology
CO2 Laser Resurfacing

This method of skin treatment is ideal for treating wrinkles, scars, warts, enlarged oil glands on the nose, or other conditions on the skin. An advanced form of fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing (ultra pulse) uses very short pulsed light energy delivered in a scanning pattern to remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage. Recovery usually takes up to two weeks.

Non ablative laser | Oasis
Fractionated Non-Ablative Laser Treatment

This treatment is a favorite since it is a non-wounding laser that treats fine lines, dark spots, and skin blemishes by removing layers of the skin. Since it’s fractional, it allows the skin to heal faster compared to when a whole area is treated at one time. This treatment lets the body heal naturally to create a healthier, tighter tissue and replace old skin imperfections.

Laser Genesis | Oasis
Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis stimulates collagen regrowth. This method has become popular since it’s safe with minimal side effects. It only takes around 30 minutes to complete the procedure, which is primarily used to treat scars and broken blood vessels. After a session, you’ll notice an added benefit of having smaller pores, and a youthful and glowing skin.

OTHER LASER TREATMENTS

Other laser treatments stimulate collagen growth, they are less aggressive than an ablative laser, and has a shorter recovery time. It can be performed using pulsed-dye laser, erbium (Er:YAG), and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy.

Pulse-Dye Laser Resurfacing | Oasis Dermatology
Pulsed-Dye Laser Resurfacing

Pulse-dye laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat many skin issues related to your blood vessels. They are typically non-ablative and use concentrated yellow light to heat the skin and absorb pigments. This treatment can be a helpful option if you have issues with redness, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, or rosacea.

IPL | Oasis Dermatology
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Technically, Intense Pulsed Light treatments are not lasers, but they can be used to treat the same skin issues as lasers. IPL is often used to help repair scarring, sun damage, stretch marks, acne, rosacea, birthmarks, and hyperpigmentation. Moreover, it can be utilized to get rid of unwanted hair.

Nd: YAG

Neodymium YAG (Nd:YAG) laser uses a crystal of the same name as a laser medium to treat certain skin conditions and destroy diseased cells. The laser light pulses address skin disorders such as vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, and a nail disorder called onychomycosis. It also helps remove tattoos and unwanted hair.

Diode Laser

Diode laser is proven to be the fastest, safest, and most effective hair removal method for all types of skin and hair. It works by emitting a beam of light absorbed by the hair pigment which destroys it effectively without affecting the surrounding skin. Diode laser is used to remove hair in sensitive areas like chest and bikini lines.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING FAQS

Who is a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

People with acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines, dyspigmentation, sagging skin, or wrinkles around the eyes or mouth or on the forehead, scars from acne, and non-responsive skin may be candidates for fractional laser treatment.

Make sure to consult with a doctor before the procedure is done to determine if it will work for you.

Does laser skin resurfacing for acne scars hurt?

When undergoing superficial laser resurfacing, you will feel the warmth from the laser and experience pins and needles during the treatment. While not painful, many consider this treatment to be mildly uncomfortable.

How can I maximize the results of laser skin resurfacing?

Patients who undergo laser skin resurfacing will see the results last a few years, but extending that timeline further is as simple as following a regular skincare routine. Moisturizing regularly, avoiding the sun, and wearing sunscreen anytime you plan to be outdoors will keep your skin looking and feeling rejuvenated for additional years.

Is laser treatment safe?

Yes, fractional laser treatment is considered a highly safe treatment with little to no risks and side effects. Patients may have burns or scarring from the laser’s heat in very rare circumstances. But, if it is performed by an experienced and top-notch dermatologist like Dr. Jesleen Ahluwalia, you have nothing to worry about.
